What I Tested: (Moen Solidad DIY Faucet $229.00 at Home Depot )
Moen sent an email asking if I’d like to test their high end faucet, which cost over $700 and I immediately declined thinking that I would probably have to have a plumber come over to the house to install the product. It did not seem fair to me or to the blog to try something out that needed a professional to install it. When I told the representative that I was focusing on DIY gadgets he recommended that I test out the Solidad faucet, which I could likely install on my own.
What I Made:
I really did make myself crazy trying to install the faucet. This was the first time I had ever attempted something like this and I was wildly unprepared. In the end, however, it all worked out and I now cooking away and cleaning things up with ease.
How it Rated:
Unless you install faucets every day or have done it in the past, this is no easy task, but Moen did their best to make the process as simple as possible. The kit came complete with a few tools for tightening some of the screws (you still need to supply your own wrench and screwdriver) as well as a step-by-step instruction booklet that used pictures to explain the installation.
After realizing that I did not have the tools needed to complete the installation I called on my friend Timmy for some help. He came prepared, tools and all, but when it came time to follow the instructions we both stood there a little confused. Pictures can be very helpful and so can words, but when they live on their own they can be a little confusing. This was the case with the Moen direction. All pictures and no words make Timmy and Mikey confused boys, but in the end we figured it out.
Actually, we got all of the way to the end and when it came time to connect the faucet pipes to the pipes leading from the valves to the faucet Tim realized that what existed with the old faucet would not work with the new faucet. So we headed down to the hardware store to pick up some new, flexible pipes. With a few turns of the screw and the valves set to the water pressure desired my sink was back in business.
This product works very well and its height is perfect for filling large stock pots or cleaning an oversized piece of cookware. The removable nozzle is also very handy and allows me to thoroughly clean the sink or fill up a pot while it rests on the countertop. Although we had a few headaches with the installation the overall experience has been incredible.
