In the heart of Tokyo they have a covered food market called Nishiki. This was my favorite of all experiences during my trip. The long hallway is filled with food vendors selling everything from interesting veggies with what we think was powdered miso and blowfish sashimi (John REFUSED to let me try this at the risk of it being prepared the wrong way and poisoning me) to all kinds of pickled veggies and skewers. The best one we had was the "Thighs of a Cross Between a Wild and Domestic Duck and Leek" skewer. Yes, that was the name and although the it is a long one and not really localized for the potential English speaking customers, it was absolutely delicious and something I would have eaten over and over again.
Anders had the Chicken Thighs and Leek Skewer With what I believe was a teriyaki sauce. We tried the duck skewer with teriyaki sauce also.
At 150 yen this is something you do not want to pass up next time you are in Kyoto ;). Stay tuned for a version of the duck skewer. It is something John and I vowed to make when we get home.
